Last Thursday morning at 9 am walking home from the train I was so tired and so sore I wanted to crawl home on all 4s.
I had worked the past 11 days straight. I had worked 107 hours total. I had slept around 27 hours in the past 8 days. I was scheduled to work the next 4 days without a break.
I had a box dropped on me. I had had my hand smashed. I had been pushed over, rammed with boxes and my arms were all cut up to my armpits.
I was tired and so sore I could hardly get out of bed.
I felt load ins were dangerous, this is where most of my injuries came from, and these people were not paying attention, someone is going to get hurt worse than me.
I wanted to go back to Production.
I called and in my exhausted haze, I left a my message with my manager. –
As much as I would like to rant and rage about all the lies and iciness of this company I won’t, it won’t change a thing.
Let’s just say I was given an ultimatum, Decorator (the path I was on) or nothing.
I chose my health and safety over crazy, pushing, dangerous, sleepless christmas decorating.
It has taken almost a week for me to catch up on sleep, for my back to recover and soon my hands will stop aching every time I wake up. It was mostly fun and did exactly what I wanted- I did Bergdorf Goodman and I enjoyed it.
I’d like to thank everyone for all their encouragement and comments. You helped me out more than you will ever know.
I am sorry if I have let any one down and that the adventure was cut so short. I miss working more than I thought I would. I guess that means it is time to look for the next adventure.
PLUS now I have to get my butt in gear and make my own holidays.
Happiest and Saftest Holidays to Everyone.
Post Script ~
It occurred to me this week, as I was “shaping Wreaths” at Target, that I learned a lot. I have really enjoyed blogging and everyone has been so supportive that I feel really bad just ending this.
SO I am going to continue blogging about some of the things I learned, some of the things I do and some of my favorite holiday recipes. My Great Holiday adventure will continue, without the crazy schedule, lack of sleep or blood loss.
If you have a tip or trick you’d like to share, or something you want to know more about, leave it in the comments or send me an email at Kate@KateLemmersDesigns.com
