Today began Kate’s Great Holiday Adventure.
What’s Kate’s Great Holiday Adventure? you ask…. Well, tired of the “Knitwear Designer Game,” Hub’s encouraged me to “Get a real, Paying Job.” I was scrolling thru Craig’s list when a once in a lifetime dream job popped up. I applied, and they hired me.
Today I became a seasonal employee at American Christmas Inc.
I get to help decorate New York City for the Holidays!!!
The hours will be CRAZY, days and nights and 10 to 12 hours a days. I WILL be working on Thanksgiving, but I get Christmas off!!
I will be chronicling my adventures here and posting pic of the places I get to decorate. Pictures will be showing in Instagram first, you can find me there as Knitsophrenic. I will try to write as much as I can, but bear with me, I am not use to a 9 to 5 job much less a crazy reckless schedule I feel is in store for me.
Paperwork, Rules and Regulations (NO PHOTOS on the production floor- Copyright issues…. BLAH) a tour and Photos for ID. Good thing I used hair spray.
Then I learned how those magical white glittery branches are made. My part was located very close to the beginning of the process, so close to the beginning the only step before it was harvesting the branches. I got to scrape the bark off them so they could be painted White & Glittery.
I found my Zen scraping away after seeing that these branches will be use at Bergdorf Goodman.
Luckily after lunch I got to use my new box cutter and apply plastic to carts for Painting the Branches tomorrow. I also got to cut my finger with my new box cutter too. Just blood, no stitches needed. I have to find me a utility knife or I’m going to be slicing my butt up with the box cutter as I slide it into my back pocket while it is still open.
Well that’s all the glamour for today. Off to pack lunch for tomorrow.
