In honor of the 40th Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival I am sharing, along with many of my GREAT readers, Tips for attending such amazing yarnie fibery goodness.
It is Thursday and work day is going to feel long just knowing that you are going to festival this weekend.
We have discussed making a plan, wearing comfortable shoe, dress in layers and bring a bag. Two more tips for preparation for the festival, both of them from the amazing comments I have been getting – Water and Sun Screen –
I must admit, I carry both of these items with me all the time but usually only drink 1/2 the water and never use the sunscreen. Which is really silly because I have seen some pretty nasty sunburns starting at the show- All these kind comments will help me be really conscious of them this year.
Generously apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 30 to all exposed skin. Apply the sunscreen to dry skin 15 minutes BEFORE going outdoors. Apply one ounce, enough to fill a shot glass”, which dermatologists consider the amount needed to cover the exposed areas of the body. Adjust the amount of sunscreen applied depending on your body size.
The amount of water required per day has become a slippery subject lately – but common sense dictates to bring at least 2 bottles of water with you – one to leave in the car for the ride home and one to take to the festival and sip on thru out the day.
O.K. we know what to wear and where we are going- But what are we looking for.
Tonight as you do laundry to make sure all the layers you are going to wear are clean, check you Ravelry queue, take time to riffle thru all those knitting magazines you have collected, flip those binders of patterns you have collected and printed, make dinner and sit down to get lost for 2 hour in Ravelry.
What are we looking for – why something to knit of course.
When you find that item you are ready to knit, or spin the yarn for that item you are ready to knit, photo copy the materials section to carry with you so when you find the perfect yarn- you know how much to get. (Remember to buy one more skein- remember these vender are Craftspeople making fine small batches getting the extra yarn you need later might not be possible)
If you want to meet me – I will be at the Fiber Space Sip & Knit Booth at 1 pm on Sunday!
Blissful Knitting Hope to see you soon
