I got 2 lovely braids of Romney Roving from GwenErin Natural Fibers while I was at the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival.
I have had a spinning wheel for years and try to remember to dues it regularly. There was a big debate a year ago while we were moving if I would foster the wheel with a friend or take it with me. I ended up taking it with me.
With less designing going on I have been staring at it. And these lovely roving at the show kept calling my name.
This is one braid in color way Dragon Scales
The one below is color way Old World
So I bought them and they called to me all the way home. (I must also confess that for this road trip 13 hours total on the road I got “A Game of Thrones” to listen to on the drive- I am sure that had something to do with it too.)
In fact I did not even finish unpacking my teaching stuff before I have pulled my wheel out, dusted it off and began to spin.
I know it is not perfect- but it was FUN. I had FUN spinning crazy bulky yarn.
Now I cannot wait to knit it. I have my pattern all picked out. The Silk Moon Cresent Shawlette by Jaala Spiro. Her design calls for 300 to 400 yards of worsted weight yarn. I have no idea how much yardage I have…. So I am going to Cast On 39 or 56 sts and start my shawlette around row 21 or 32 and see how far I get from there. I am going to alternate between the colors for a happy fun shawlette thing I spun myself.
Off to knit-
