In my beginning there was yarn and then there was knitting magazines filled with all their glossy pictures of texture and color and inspiration. This is the beginning of my knitting obsession.
When I first learned to knit it was all squeaky yarn and old afghan patterns… Did not interest or inspire me at all.
One day a few years after I re-started knitting, I discovered a Local Yarn Shop filled with rich colors and sumptuous fibers and glorious knitting magazines.
In one of these lovely treats for the eyes I saw this cable stitch pattern and feel in love. I thought this amazing creativity and subtle texture was perfect. I thought the designer thought up the stitch pattern and everything. Oh how wonderful to be so talented.
I have since learned that there are books and books filled with stitch patterns of every type, size, style, and color. I no longer have the design I discovered this stitch pattern in, I remember it being a very basic sweater, but I still love this stitch pattern.
There are several versions of this cable out there varying in stitch and row repeats. Here are two references if you want to look it up.

This stitch pattern has been pinned to my board for years waiting for me.
Well, here it is.
This is not necessarily a “New” design for me. It had been out on Raverly for a while, but I took it down. I guess I was not ready to let it go. But now I am ready to share it with the world.
I have been wearing this sweater for years now. I LOVE it. I love how cozy and comfy this sweater is.
I love the color!! In fact I used this very same color in Ole #7 I love the yarn, Cascade 220, a hearty yarn the knits the distance.
In the Beginning is a very versatile sweater. The K2P2 ribbed side panels can give some shaping for a snug curve hugging fit by not blocking them out. Ripples at the neck, sleeve and bottom edge create feminine touch for a rugged wool sweater.
This is the very first design I made for myself. It is very special to me and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
